Shadows : A Wunderkammer

An imaginative exploration of a digital 4th dimensional curiosity cabinet.

“For why should the thirst for knowledge be aroused, only to be disappointed and punished?”

― Edwin A. Abbott, Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions

Few things excite us more than novelty and the unknown.  In this digital cabinet of wonder, I explore visual ideas of the 4th dimension.  The complications and contradictions in attempting to display 4th-dimensional ideas, in a 3-dimensional universe on a 2-dimensional plane, is fairly absurd.  Any rational explanation of the 4th dimension will still be met with confusion and a lack of intuition.

Through exploring ideas of space-time and the inter-dimensional; in science, mathematics, and philosophy, we can entertain the possibility of its existence.  This belief can then perpetuate fantastical imaginings that drive us to further explore.

Repetition of simple geometric forms, structure the space containing the 4th dimensional view-ports; applying point to line, line to plane, and so on.  In this way, I hope to communicate a pathway in which higher dimensions can be built.  The ideas of “time-stacking” and a higher dimensional space being composed of lower dimensions, is able to be further explored.
